Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology (also known as Ortho-k) allows you to enjoy an active lifestyle without wearing glasses or contact lenses. For many people it’s an attractive alternative to laser eye surgery (such as RK, PRK, ALK, LASIK, and LASEK).

How it works

Specially-customized contact lenses are made specifically for your eyes which can be worn either at night or during the day, while you sleep. Upon awakening, your lenses are removed to enjoy excellent vision while awake.

Who can benefit from Ortho-k

People who find contact lenses uncomfortable because of dryness or irritation may benefit from orthokeratology. Those who engage in sports and have active lifestyles may also enjoy the freedom that Ortho-k brings. This procedure is particularly pertinent to high myopes (people with nearsightedness) and to children with progressive myopia and astigmatism.

Ortho-k Expertise

The eye's surface is carefully mapped to provide a custom fit for every orthokeratology patient.

The advantage of custom design lenses

Your eyes are unique and so should your contact lenses. At the Chow Eye Institute, we do not believe in “one size fits all” when it comes to contact lens fittings. We custom design each lens specifically for the individual patient’s eyes.

With the help of OrthoTool Custom Design Software, we are able to take into consideration each patient’s unique eye characteristics which include physical and biomechanical properties to design the most appropriate contact lenses for their eyes. When it comes to custom design, we can tackle more difficult cases with more accuracy and success. If you were told before that you could not wear contact lenses or that you were not an Ortho-k candidate because your prescription was “out of bounds”, then you have come to the right place. With the help of OrthoTool, we may have a solution for you.
